Prawn Sukka (Yetti sukka in Tulu) is a delicious seafood dish from the coastal city Mangalore. It's been a long time since I had this dish, so I prepared it today. Hope you guys like it.

Preparation time: 30 mins, Serves: 6
Ingredients:
  • Prawns(Shrimp): 1 lb (500 g)
  • Chilly Powder: 2 tsp (adjust according to spice level)
  • Coriander Powder: 2tsp
  • Cumin Powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric: 1/2 tsp
  • Salt: To taste
  • Grated coconut: 3 tbsp
  • Oil: 2 tbsp
  • Garam masala : 1 tsp (optional)
  • Tomato: 2
  • Onion: 1
  • Ginger Garlic Paste: 2tsp 
  • Coriander leaves to garnish
Preparation:
  • Grate Coconut and keep aside(or else get grated coconut).
  • Chop onions and tomato into small pieces

Method:
  • Take a Pan add oil and heat it, once heated add Ginger Garlic Paste stir it, then add Onion, heat it till it turns brown and soft.
  • Now add Tomato and saute it until its cooked ( about 2 mins).
  • After that add chilly powder, coriander powder, turmeric and cumin powder keep mixing as you heat it, make sure no clumps are left.
  • Now add Prawns(Shrimp) mix it, cook for about 3 minutes under medium flame.
  • Add Salt according to your taste, mix.
  • Then add Grated coconut and mix, cook for about 2 mins and then add garam masala(optional), mix.
  • Garnish with Coriander leaves .
  • Prawn sukka is ready, serve it Neer Dosa or Rice

  2. Hi, in Kerala, for any prawns dish, first in our homes, we cook it just with salt and turmeric powder in water for around 15 minutes until the water evaporates. Are you saying there is no need to pre-cook prawns separately? 3 minutes is enough? I am just curious because i have never cooked prawns by myself.

    1. Hey.. Yeah. its not only 3 mins. After u add prawns cook for 3 mins, the add rest of the ingredients. So when everything is done, it will be around 10 mins. Prawns will be cooked by then.
