Matar paneer is one the famous paneer ( cottage cheese ) recipe in Indian cuisine both vegetarian and non veggies love this dish.
 
Ingredients :
  • Paneer( cottage cheese) :500 g
  • Green peas :250 g
  • Onion : 1
  • Tomato : 1 
  • Oil : 3tbsp
  • Chilly powder : 3 tsp
  • Coriander powder : 2 tsp
  • Cumin powder : 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder : pinch
  • Salt : to taste ( 1 tsp)
  • Garam masala : 1 tsp
  • Chopped garlic : 1tsp
  • Water

  •  Heavy cream : 2 tbsp ( optional if you want thick rich gravy)
  • Coriander leaves ( for garnish)

Preparation:
  • Soak peas in water overnight
  • Take 2-3 garlic cloves and chop it into fine pieces.
  • Chop onion , tomatoes  into small pieces and keep it ready .( If tomato puree is used no need of chopped tomatoes)
  • Cut paneer into pieces ( size 2 x 3 cms). 
  • Fry paneer in oil till it turns slight brown( to prevent disintegration of paneer)

Method :


    • Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan 
    • Add onion , heat it until it becomes brown and soft
    • Add chopped garlic 
    • Add chopped tomatoes or puree (3-4tsp)
    • Then cook for sometime till oil seperates.
    • Then add 2-3 tsp chilly powder( modify the amount according to your spice level), 2tsp coriander powder ,1 tsp cumin powder, turmeric powder and salt .
    • Mix and saute it for about 1 min
    • Add water , mix it
    • Add green peas ,mix, close lid and allow it to cook for sometime.( might take sometime for the green peas to cook, you can also cook green peas in pressure cooker and add)
    • After peas are cooked add cut fried  paneer.
    • Allow it to cook for sometime .

    •  Add garam masala 1tsp ( can add pepper cloves , bayleaf if required its optional) and mix. Now You can add heavy cream if you want( optional)
    • Add salt if needed
    • Garnish with coriander leaves 
    •  Serve with Chapathi or Rice
