Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking time : 30 mins
Serves : 4-5

Ingredients :
  • Oil : 2 tbsp
  • Toor Dal : 1 cup
  • Onion : 1 small chopped
  • Tomato : 1 chopped ( or puree )
  • Cumin seeds : 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder : 1 tsp
  • Chilly powder : 2tsp
  • Coriander powder : 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilly : 3-4 sliced
  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 tbsp
  • Salt : to taste
  • Garam masala : 1tsp
  • Water : 3 cups
  • Coriander leaves : for garnishing.

Method :
  • Cook 1 cup of dal in a pressure cooker or rice cooker adding 1 tsp of salt and 2 cups water.
  • Take a  big pan and heat 2 tbsp of oil.
  • When oil is heated add cumin seeds. Wait until all the seeds burst .
  • Then add  chopped onions, wait until its brown.
  • Add green chillies , Saute for a minute. And then add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander and cumin powder.
  • Then add tomatoes, cook till tomatoes soften.
  • Add garam masala and salt (if needed)
  • Then add cooked dal in to this and mix well. Add water if needed.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with rice or roti.
