Chattambade (Dal vada ) also called as Parippu vada, I'll stick with Chattambade the name used in Mangalore.

PREPARATION TIME: 2 1/2 hr ( 2hrs soaking)

Oil for frying
channa dal(split bengal gram) : 1 cup
Green chillies 3-4 chopped 
Chilly powder 1tsp
Onion :1 small
Ginger : 1/2 tsp
Garlic : 1tsp
*Curry leaves *


Method :
  • Soak channa dal in water for about 2 hours
  • Then put dal in a mixer and blend it until only half the dal is ground. Don't make paste . 
  • Take it in a vessel; add chopped green chillies 3-4, chopped onions ( as needed ), chilly powder 1 tsp, salt (according to taste around 2-4 tsp), chopped garlic 1tsp, chopped ginger 1/2 tsp .
Mix well
  • Heat oil in a deep pan. When the oil is hot ( on a mid flame ), make round flat patties of dal and deep fry it until it turns brown .

Serve it with coconut chutney

Note: Adding curry leaves makes it even better.
